Transit Tech opens season, closing out T.M.A

HARLEM, NY - You never get a second chance to make first impression.
On Wednesday, the visiting ENY Transit Tech Express (1-0/0-0) made that impression, starting their season with a win while leaving an impression of the Thurgood Marshall Academy Panthers (0-1/0-0) face down on their own court. The Brooklyn PSAL team soundly beat T.M.A., 75-53.

The writing was on the wall early in this out-of-league game as the Express vaulted ahead in the first quarter off a 10-0 run. T.M.A.'s porous defense gave 5'11" senior Matt Banton and 6'1" senior Fabian MacDonald free reign at multiple hoops. Buckets by 6'0" juniorJhedayah "Juice" Gibbs ended the Panther's drought but they were now down 27-6 heading into the second quarter.

The Panthers' flatline showed signs of life as promising sophomore,Dimencio Vaughn stepped up the intensity on both ends of the court. The lefty did work offensively as well as on the boards but as a team, Thurgood Marshall simply traded buckets with Transit Tech throughout the quarter.

Late turnovers would put the Harlem, NY team into even a larger hole at the midway point as Tech's lead grew to 25 points.

The Panthers began to put points on the board more consistently in the third quarter but again, their defense could not contain the Express. Strong drives and perimeter shots by 5'11" senior Shywann Spencer along with points in the paint by 6'4" senior Gabe Agorioge soon punted the visitor's lead to a game-high 31 points to begin the final quarter.

Thurgood Marshall Academy had no quit in them and managed to shave ten points off their deficit with 2:30 left to play. The Express responded by extending the floor and running out the clock, en route to an emphatic 22 point pounding of T.M.A.

Banton led the way for Transit Tech with 22 points with MacDonald and Spencer adding 16 points and 11 points respectively. Agorioge also scored 11 points. Gibbs was high man for T.M.A. with 21 points followed by Vaughn who contributed 19 points.
