Practice makes perfect for TMA, advances to the second round by NYHoops

Thurgood Marshall Academy’s performance two weeks ago versus archrival Wadleigh in the Manhattan Borough Championship game was nothing short of an embarrassment. Throughout the 30-point loss, they were out-hustled, out-executed, out-toughed, and any other “out-__” that you can possibly imagine.
Head coach Abdu-Allah Torrence held some of his toughest practices of the year the following week. His main emphases were running up and down the court and playing aggressive defense. During one drill, if a defender failed to retrieve a steal, he would be forced to do 10 push-ups.
Hard work pays off. Although trailing for the majority of the game, TMA’s defensive intensity held Robeson to only 15 points in the second half, en route to a 43-38 victory and a second round match-up against #1 seed Lincoln High.
